Localizado no Litoral Norte a aproximadamente 121 km de Maceió e a 135 km de Recife, conta com um importante pólo turístico e possui uma excelente infra-estrutura com bares a beira mar, restaurantes, hotéis e pousadas de charme, que fazem o diferencial na qualidade dos serviços.

Com seus 15 km de praias com águas mornas, claras e calmas, emolduradas por falésias e coqueiros, Japaratinga, é a porta de entrada para a Rota Ecológica de Alagoas.

Japaratinga tem uma atmosfera paradisíaca que encanta. Sua divisão se dá em 5 praias. A primeira, que dá nome a cidade, é onde se encontra a melhor estrutura, com mar calmo e barreira de recifes. Quando a maré está baixa, dá para caminhar mais de 100 metros mar adentro.

Saindo da cidade para as outras praias, passa-se por belas falésias e chega-se a Praia de Bitingui, a mais reservada, rodeada por coqueiros. O mar é clarinho e na maré baixa quando se formam bancos de areias, ficam perfeitos para caminhadas.

Logo depois vêm as Praia de Barreiras do Boqueirão com suas fontes de água mineral e agradáveis bares e restaurantes, abriga vila de pescadores. A paisagem é incrementada ainda por inusitadas falésias coloridas que chegam a 20 metros de altura.

A seguir vem a Praia do Boqueirão, a mais deserta, com seus densos coqueirais, areias brancas e muita tranquilidade. O mar calmo completa o visual do paraíso.

O quinto trecho é a Praia do Pontal, um encontro do mar com o Rio Manguaba. É ali que se toma a balsa para atravessar para a vizinha Porto de Pedras.

Japaratinga é meio que ofuscada por suas vizinhas famosas. Como fica a apenas 10km de Maragogi, muito gente nem toma conhecimento de sua existência. Mas não se engane! A cidade não deixa nada a desejar. Mas vale lembrar que Japaratinga não possui um centrinho bonitinho, com inúmeras lojinhas, restaurantes e bares. Japaratinga não tem tudo disso! Ah, vale lembrar também que o artesanato típico da cidade são confeccionados com a palha do coqueiro.

Como chegar?
Não existe transporte público ligando as 2 cidades. O aconselhável é pegar um ônibus de Maceió até Porto Calvo (20km de Japaratinga) ou até Maragogi (10km à frente). Por isso, a melhor opção é alugar um carro em Maceió, não apenas para ir até lá, mas para conhecer bem todas as belas praias da região. Partindo de Maceió, é só pegar a AL-101 Norte até o destino. Outra opção é seguir pela Al-101 Norte até São Luís do Quitunde. Daí em diante seguir pela Rota Ecológica (AL-436), passando pelos municípios de Passo de camaragibe, São Miguel dos Milagres e Porto de Pedras, em cuja margem toma-se uma balsa para atravessar o Rio Manguaba. Na outra margem já é Japaratinga.

Partindo do Recife, segue-se pela BR-101 Sul até a cidade do Cabo. Daí, pela PE-60 até São José da Coroa Grande, na divisa com Alagoas. Após a divisa começa Maragogi, siga em frente pela AL-101 Norte até Japaratinga.
